Landfill- Can we talk about all the plastic on that seat? Dinosaurs are more likely to reappear before the seat will disappear!
Recycle- Maybe this is a possibility, I'm really not sure. Anyone know?
The seats are no longer considered safe for use by the manufacturer so Goodwill and other donation places don't want these expired seats- I'm sure Goodwill adds to the landfill more than any company with all the junk people take them. Replacement straps and buckles can be ordered from the manufacturer, but what if the company no longer makes seats? Sure, baby depot stores like BabiesRus sell replacement parts as well but here's my hang up-is the structure of the seat itself still safe to use? Somehow I doubt after 6 years of use that it is. Even if it is, I highly doubt that an expired seat went through same testing that the current safety tests require in the United States.
So, what do you do with expired car seats? Let's hear your plan of action.

Check out BabyEarth, I wrote about them here: http://sage-parenting.com/2008/10/02/sage-find-october-2/
They'll recycle every part they can of your gear if you ship it to them.
Thanks for the tip & the link Meagan!
Not sure how much shipping would end up costing on 2 toddler high back boosters but we'll check it out.
Anyone else know a way to recycle seats??
From what I understood they're just fit for the landfill. Nothing to do with replacement parts either as it is the main structure that can be fatigued over time.
It really bugs me too that we're shoving these huge hunks of plastic into the landfill. My only small solace is that it is small compared to all the other garbage we as a society create :(
A doggie car seat ???? Fido needs to be safe too. It would also make a great booster seat for company.
