"Mary, Mary quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells and cockle shells,
and pretty maids in a row."
Well, I can tell you there won't be any silver bells or cockle shells (what is that anyway?) in my garden this year. We are growing lots of yummy veggies and a few fruits. This is our first garden so I'm researching what to do and how to start my garden like a crazy person. Put it this way, EcoSearch is giving lots of money on my behalf.
The best guide I've found for beginners is at eHow, it's basic information but just enough to point you in the right direction. They have broken gardening down into a 12 step process. Check it out: How To Start A Vegetable Garden.

I've planted some of our easily transplanted seeds in an indoor greenhouse. Doing this saves money when you compare it to purchasing flats of seedlings. Most seeds can be grown indoor for 3-4 weeks and some up to 6-8 weeks before planting. Indoor greenhouses are so easy to use!!!
Here's how:
-Sort your seeds by ones that can be started inside. Most seeds will say this on the back of the package.
-Water the pellets and wait for them to expand to full size about an inch and half.
-Gently open the netting and fluff the surface of the soil on each expanded pellet. (left three rows have been opened in pic. on left)
-Plant up to 2-3 seeds per pellet.-Cut back the plants once leaves begin to sprout, keep only the strongest seedling for each pellet.
- Watch them grow. Carefully transplant after the first frost and once your soil is ready.
Our greenhouse (the first one) is housing zucchini, cucumbers, squash, sugar baby watermelon, and peppers.
EASY! EASY! EASY! $6 for the greenhouse at Wal-mart + ~$6 for the seeds= 72 plants for the garden & endless fun and education for the kids!
Give it a shot, come grow with us!

Good luck. We want to plant a garden box this year as well. Sounds like a good mix you have. Between the farmer co-op and this garden ya'll will be enjoying some "cool veggies" this year.
Thanks Richard. Our plants started sprouting and took right off! I hope your garden box takes off too!
