During a previous posted article, Swine Flu Vaccine: Is it safe?, GiveThemRoots polled 1,000 readers to find out if they planned to get the H1N1 vaccine. Below are the findings from our poll.
Question:
Do you plan to get the H1N1 vaccine for yourself or a member in your household?
Result:
Yes: 10%
No: 65%
Maybe: 6%
Need More Information: 19%
I have to admit that I'm a little surprised at the number of people not vaccinating against what the CDC and US Government "warns" to be a highly contagious and deadly pandemic level virus. Could it be that we, the people of the United States of America, have started to figure out you can't really trust government run programs (FDA, CDC, etc.) any more than you can most politicians? Seems to be!!!!!! HALLELUJAH! At any rate, I'm glad that most people are taking the time to research this on their own and not just jumping in line because that's what the news is saying to do.
We're still holding down the fort at our house and have remained piggy flu-free without the vaccine and we still don't plan to get it. Amazingly enough our ped isn't pushing it at all and my OB admitted, when I discussed my concerns with him, that he wasn't getting the vaccine either due to similar concerns.
However, we do know a lot of people that have contracted H1N1... or have they? Our local hospitals and the vast majority of doctor offices have stopped testing for H1N1 and instead are diagnosing all flu-like symptoms as swine flu because "it's too early for regular seasonal flu". Wait... what?!? Flu symptoms can be any combo of the following: fever, runny nose, cough, headache, mild diarrhea or vomiting. Sounds a lot like the symptoms of most viruses, colds, and other disgusting things kids share regularly when school is back in session. Well, it turns out that when the CDC was still testing & tracking (which they haven't been doing since August 30, 2009) the overwhelming majority of the influenza confirmed cases (the nose swab test) came back NEGATIVE for H1N1. So if they CDC isn't tracking then why waste the money on swabbing your nose? I guess I can see the hospitals & doctors reasoning but seriously- stop telling everyone they have swine flu unless you know for sure they do.
I don't know what's going on folks but something is fishy and I'm sure we'll all find out what it is within the next year or so. Until then, here's a video I recommend that you all listen to from an interview by Dr. Mercola with Barbara Loe Fisher, President of the National Vaccine Information Center . You can read the link HERE and watch the video below. It is 9 minutes long but it's 9 minutes you will be glad you listened to!
Any new thoughts?

I hope more and more people read this Dare. While the pedi told us that Seb did in fact test positive for "H1N1", it's actually Type A Influenza that he tested positive for and actually in conducting some research there are 2 subtypes of Influenza A that are circulating currently, possibly more considering that Type A can rapidly and gradually change, hence the reason why so many get the flu shot and still get the flu. My question is that all this stuff is circulation about H1N1, but NOTHING is out there about H3N2 otherwise known as Hong-Kong Flu. And historically those two co-circulate. Also, Type A is usually responsible for the annual outbreaks in the late fall and early winter which is what's called "seasonal flu" but according to my pedi, the seasonal flu season hasn't really started. So how does that make sense? If Type A can be for H1N1 and others and also seasonal, who's to say that this isn't actually all just seasonal flu now?? Especially since they aren't testing for H1N1 specifically?
Additionally, according to the CDC "Regular influenza A (H1N1), A (H3N2), and influenza B viruses are included in each year's seasonal influenza vaccine." so if they're normally all included, why push to get a vaccine specifically targeting H1N1 anyway? Even though they say that this year's flu shot won't provide protection against H1N1.
None of it makes sense and every fiber of my being is screaming that there is something no one is saying out loud!!!! THAT is more scary to me than the prospect of whether or whether not to get the flippin vaccine in the first place!
Exactly my thoughts, Kellye. Something is seriously off here. I originally thought it was some weird way for the government to provide a "bailout" for drug companies to boost the economy without anyone noticing another 9 billion dollar gov't bailout plan. But then that doesn't make much sense either; If we can provide drugs to 3rd world countries for pennies compared to dollars of what we pay as here in our country for the same drugs, then they sure as heck don't need the extra money because America forks out every day.
I have no idea what's going on but like you said all of my mommy fibers are screaming stay the heck away from it. Nothing makes any sense about this "outbreak" or vaccine.
BTW- Several Canadian providences have pulled the vaccine already. They are recommending Vitamin D & C supplements to everyone instead.
I am also in the "NO" stack on getting the H1N1 vaccine. I have one month left of my first pregnancy, and I am so excited for the arrival of a little boy.
If we are not trusting of the government agencies that oversee this corner of the medical field, why oh why would we want a government run health care system?
Unfortunately it's all fine and good until frankly...it's not. I can easily say I would have not gotten the vaccination prior to the birth of our second child. There is not enough time for sufficient research. However, since he was born with a very complicated medical history; including, airway issues we were first in line for both of my kids to receive the flu vaccinations. A flu diagnosis for us is an automatic extended hospital stay and anything that can protect us from that-I am willing. Everyone has a different story, everyone listens with one deaf ear, and you are responsible for taking care of your family as you best see fit-that is why it is OUR choice.
