An Apple A Day...

Have you ever wondered why apples are so darn cheap in the winter? Apples seem to be the only fruit that goes on sale during chilly temps, not that I'm complaining! I love apples. The only thing I love more than apples is bisque. Tomato bisque, lobster bisque, cheese bisque, bisque, bisque, bisque... I haven't met a bisque that I didn't completely adore. Now, you can just imagine how elated I was to find The Grove Park Inn's, Chilled Ginger-Apple Bisque recipe (courtesy of NC's department of Agriculture). This is a bisque that even the kids will gobble up.

Grove Park Inn's Chilled Ginger-Apple Bisque:
•16oz apple butter
•2oz fresh ginger-peeled
•8oz plain low fat yogurt
•8oz apple cider
•2oz honey

Blend all together in blender. Serve chilled. Makes 1quart.

Don't go running to buy apple butter or apple cider from the store just yet. Try making it from scratch using these recipes from allrecipes.com.

I'm going to warn you, the All Day Apple Butter does in fact take ALL DAY, but it's worth the wait. Just plan accordingly and enjoy a home filled with the aroma of fresh baked apples. What are you waiting for? Stop reading and get to work. :)

Winter is the best time for fruit! Oranges and apples are so cheap. Except my favorite apple that a woman at our local farmer's market has: the pink granny, a crossed pink lady and granny smith--delicious!

Oooh...a pink granny. I need to try one of those! I love pink lady apples and granny smith. Yum! Another good one is honeycrisp :)

I bought some pink grannies at our local Target a few weeks ago! Check out the Super Target in your area, maybe they have them. :) They are divine!
