The Tasty Guide to a Diabetics Diet

Just because one is a diabetic doesn’t mean that person has to eat bland or tasteless food, quite the contrary. A diabetic’s meal can be just as tasty as a regular person. Instead of watching carbs and such, the diabetic should be concerned about three main things.

First of all fruits and vegetables in moderation are OK even if they are sweet. As a rule of thumb, not all natural fruits and foods are good. Certain fruits can be OK such as oranges or strawberries, but others such as bananas and dates might be too sweet. The best bet is for you to test which fruits and vegetables your body will accept and which will raise the blood sugar and which will not.

Refined foods are completely off limits and at such you should stay away from them. Stick to whole grain foods and unrefined rice’s and pastas. Keep junk food to zero. No potato chips, pretzels or other junk calories, as these raise the blood sugar levels too quickly.

Protein is good as long as it’s not done to the excess. Keep away from animal protein. Stick with your beans, nuts, tofu and other sources of protein from the vegetable kingdom.

Last but not least remove refined sugars from the diet. No need to use Splenda and other artificial sweeteners. Although they do not raise blood sugar levels, they damage other organs such as the liver and kidneys. Honey, Florida Crystal, maple syrup and other unrefined sweeteners used in moderation is great. Molasses is another great sweetener as it carries all the nutrients removed from sugar such as Vitamin A, Iron etc.

Basically there is no need to sacrifice all when you are a diabetic. Stick to a healthy lifestyle and the body will correct itself. No need to give up taste because your pancreas isn’t functioning right.
