All over town I have seen signs for “Scout Sign Ups” and I must admit that I am {extremely} jealous! None of my boys are old enough for Scouts yet but, if your son or daughter is in First grade or higher, then they are! You can join a scout troop any time of the year.
Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops have so many incredible benefits for both parents and children. The programs are packed full of values, skills, and educational experiences. You can bond with your son or daughter and the outdoors during year around Scouting adventures. I don't want to sound like a commercial for Scout programs but I love that a child can build life skills, survival skills, character, self worth and qualities that will help them throughout their life!
Most churches offer Scout programs that are open to the entire community, not just the church community. Other groups also offer Scout programs. Take a look and see if there's a troop near you! BOYS: www.scouting.org GIRLS: www.girlscouts.org
Fun Fact: Approximately 5% of all Scouts will receive the Eagle Scout Award, the highest rank, making the Eagle Scout badge an extremely rare award.
I bet employers LOVE to see that achievement on a resume! I'm wondering... do Girl Scouts have a similar achievement award?

I just attended my first girl scout leader meeting last night--so your post spoke to me.
GS starts at age five. Their work culminates each year in eight "journeys" or community improvement projects.
Awe! That will be so much fun! I wish I had a little girl for Brownies (and to buy cookies from!). So is there an award they get at the end of the 8th journey? Does it continue on past age 13 in another program?
