My "test" result:
Boy
Boy
Girl
Boy
Girl
Stop
If you've been following this blog for a while then you know I have 3 boys and I'm pregnant with my 4th child but I do not have a girl. What you don't know is that I miscarried a baby at 11 weeks between the twins and my youngest son. According to my "test", the baby we lost was a girl and the one I'm expecting is also a girl. Completely intrigued at this point, I went home and did the test to myself (6 more times, actually) and got the exact same result every single time. The second Ryan walked in the door, I made him sit down and try it. 8 tests total and we got the same exact result with different people holding the thread.
The oddest thing... I told Ryan's grandparents about the test and they wanted to see it so we did it again, this time his grandmother held the thread- same result. THEN, we did it for Ryan's grandmother. Girl, Girl, Girl and then it stopped. She has 3 daughters. It gets better though, we held it over Ryan's wrist and his grandfather's... the pencil didn't swing, it only spun circles.
TRY IT!
The Pencil Test
1 pencil with eraser
1 needle
1 piece of thread
1. Thread the needle.
2. Stick the point of the needle into the top of the eraser.
3. Hold the pencil over either of the Mother's wrists by the string. The pencil will be swinging crazy then it will start making small circles. You've now begun.
4. The pencil will swing Elbow to Wrist for a BOY. Left to Right for a GIRL.
5. In between each child the pencil will stop swinging and make circles before starting again.
6. When the pencil stops swinging and is only going in circles for many seconds (close to a minute) then the test is done.
Does it work? Is it accurate?!?! Try it out and then leave me a comment letting me know your results.
Note: You do not have to be pregnant to do this. The test will tell you how many children you have had or will have.

*side note: Don't go buy pink or blue after you do this test. We(GiveThemRoots) is not supporting the accuracy of this test for everyone, only our personal experiences. Just have some fun with it!
so which end of the pencil faces the wrist. eraser and pin or lead? and does it matter how long the thread is?
You hold onto the string and the pencil tip hangs towards your wrist. We didn't use a very long string, just long enough to thread the needle and have enough "tail" to hold afterwards.
My friend told me about this test so I looked for instructions and found your blog. I tried the test on myself and my daughter. I currently have four children
boy, boy, girl, boy
TWICE it told me boy, boy, girl, boy, girl, boy. I would love it if that were true.
My friend's sister and her co-workers all did this and for all the women who had children it was accurate. It is very creepy!
