Acute Malnutrition is a condition that could potentially grow at such an uncontrollable rate that it could swallow nations of children. It's not a contagious disease. You can't catch it from a sneeze or sniffle. So, why is this Acute Malnutrition growing at such absurd rates? Among other things, climate change.
Maybe it's because our country does not rely on personal crops as a food source that this seems far fetched to many. But to the children starving in countries that do depend on these farm crops and the parents unable to provide for their family, it's a nightmarish reality.
Each year nations in Africa alone lose more and more farm land because of shifting rain patterns, insect infestations, and excessive heat. The ILRI estimated that by the year 2050 over 500,000 to 1 million square kilometers of the current farmland in Africa will not be able to produce even a subsistence level of food crop. Over 35,000,000 people live and depend on this land. The problem isn't waiting until 2050 though, it's occurring every single day.
Action Against Hunger is reaching out to help these people, especially the children. Here's how you can help too! Watch the movie trailer at www.AskAlGore.org and sign the petition asking Al Gore, noble prize winner and creator of the climate change documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, to make No Hunger his next movie! Ask him to step up and use his voice and star power again, but this time to help fight world hunger!I encourage each of you to share this on your own blog, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, by email, any way that you can. Al Gore's voice isn't the only voice that counts!
