Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

My husband and I took a trip to Asheville, NC to see Xavier Rudd, an Australian musician. He is fabulous if you haven't heard of him and his music is very environmentally and politically motivating. While we were in Asheville I kept noticing t-shirts (and a huge banner flag on stage at the concert) for the Sea Shepherds. I was aware of the massive illegal commercial fishing and whaling off several coasts worldwide but what I wasn't aware of was this amazing group of people who are literally stepping in front of these fishermen to help save the animals they are illegally capturing and killing. The Sea Shepherds Conservation Society current campaigns are Whales, Sharks, Seals, Dolphins and Galapagos (giant sea turtles). You just have to see this video for yourself to fully appreciate what these guys are doing to make a difference for the animals in our oceans.

Disclaimer: The video below is suitable for families to watch. However, there are several other YouTube videos of the Sea Shepherds that are very graphic and not suitable for children.

You might have seen the Sea Shepherds in action before on Animal Planet's Whale Wars, season 2 just started a few weeks ago. You can view past episodes HERE and learn more about the Sea Shepherd's and Whale Wars HERE. I encourage you to check out www.seashepherd.org and see how you can get involved!

Me too! It took me a little while to figure out that it was the boat!!! First, I thought it was Steve Irwin and filmed before. Then I thought it was the captain and he had the same name. ;) It's the perfect name for that type of ship!
