We borrowed the spider from a friend, another
great option for costumes. Sharing is caring!
Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love seeing the neighborhood little kids dressed up as princesses, ninjas, cowboys, and my absolute favorite, the barely walking pumpkins. Halloween can be an expensive holiday though not to mention packed full of disposable garbage. I've gathered a few of my favorite Halloween costumes, crafts and decorations that will save your budget, are more earth friendly, and you can make right at home.
Today is costume day! Stop by later this week for awesome crafts and decorations!
Mother Nature. If only I had a little girl...
-silk flowers and silk plant leaves (try Goodwill for "recycled" flowers)
-a face mask; you can easily make a mask by using poster board and ribbon.
-small twigs from the backyard
-small twigs from the backyard
-Butterflies, these can be found in craft stores, or you can make them using panty hose and wire hangers
-an old shirt and skirt or dress light colors look adorable
-hot glue gun
Attach the flowers, leaves, and twigs in random patterns on the skirt and shirt using the hot glue gun. Use small flowers and leaves for the mask. Then glue the butterflies on the shoulders of the shirt or dress. You may even want to save a few for your child's shoes. Pin a flower in your daughter's hair using a bobby pin and VOILA- Mother Nature.
Scarecrow
-Over-sized flannel shirt
-faded blue jeans
-rope
-straw
-plastic grocery bags
-felt hat
-glue gun
This one is so easy and so cute! Just use the plastic grocery bags to stuff the shirt (put a t-shirt under the flannel so the bags aren't scratchy). Tie the rope around the jeans as a belt. Glue a little bit of the straw to the inside of the felt hat so it hangs out when being worn. If you have any scrap fabric you can add a couple patches to the jeans for added decoration.
Christmas Present
-Cardboard box, moving boxes are great.
-Christmas wrapping paper
-Large bow
Cut a hole in the top of the box for your child's head and one in each side for their arms. Then wrap the box in Christmas wrapping paper. Top your child's head with a large bow using bobby pins.
These are just a few ideas... there are so many costumes you can make from home. Have you made a costume in the past that was just a hit? Let's hear it!
