After the last post I had another thought, I tried to research it and alas, no answer. So, extra credit points (in the form of a surprise giveaway) will be awarded to the first reader that can find my answer!!! Good Luck!
How many square feet of wrapping paper is used during the holiday season?

Rules:
- Answer must be left as a comment for all the readers to see.
- Answer must have a provided source ie. "WrappingPaper.com says... "
- That's it! First person to find it and comment wins. Easy Peasy.
Instead of wrapping paper or gift bags, how about a reusable shopping bag to neatly hold your token of love? You can find reusable bags all over the place now! Target, Walmart, even Dicks Sporting Goods is selling college team bags, teams vary by state. Cute, cheap, and REUSABLE! As I've said before though, Whole foods recycled bags really pull on my heartstrings, you can't go wrong with one of those.
If you absolutely must buy wrapping paper this season look for post-consumer recycled paper! And be sure to recycle all of the paper at the end of the day- tossing it in the trash is a major party foul.
Tis the season... to think with reason!
Congratulations to MyGloryDays, the winner of our extra credit assignment. The short answer, approximately 2,592,000,000 sq feet of wrapping papers are used each year! For more information see the comments.
MyGloryDays will be receiving a set of 4 Tidy Totes by Blink. This set of reusable bags is perfect for produce. Thanks for the research!

The amount of wrapping paper used each year is 8,000 tons or the equilent of 50,000 trees.
This is according to gauradian.co.uk
No prize need here but we win no prize for that kind of consumption of trees either.
Thanks for the GREAT info!!!
Still looking for that answer of how many square feet of paper are used each year though. Anyone???
I can promise this prize doesn't involve any trees and will arrive in a recycled package :)
For comparison purposes: 8,000 tons is equivalent to 8,000 HIPPOS!
8,000 hippos of wrapping paper. WOW.
I know you are probably wanting a more specific answer. But I just read about this in Real Simple magazine, and its says we average 6 rolls of wrapping paper per person and most of that is virgin paper, not recycled.
There were 2,592,000,000 sq feet used in 2006. We are all more gifts now so I would guess an even higher amount in 2007.
That is a lot of paper.
This was on the website
pinkisthenewgreen.com
That was greenisthenewpink.com
haha - got distracted with tv.
The 8,000 ton after further research is just the UK usage - crazy!
