Rain Barrel Safety

Now we know how to make a rain barrel and what to do with captured water! Here's some basic safety for using your rain barrel water.

• Rain water is not safe to drink!!!!!
  
• Cover the rain barrel and make it childproof. Rain barrels can be drowning hazards for both pets and children.
• Level the ground where your barrel will be so it will not tip over on any little ones or pets.
• Keep all holes are covered with a fine mesh to keep mosquitoes from breeding in your barrel.
• Empty and clean the rain barrel often (once a month) to prevent the growth of bacteria.
