I rarely give you a glimpse into my past or my present. Today, here is a little piece of both.
My husband is my high school sweetheart. I was 15 years old when I met him, the “new girl” at school and completely boy crazy just like every other teen girl. We were friends with the same group of people but had never actually spoken until close to the end of my Sophomore and his Junior year. That was over 12 years ago but, I can still remember the first day we talked as if it just happened yesterday. It was after school, my mom was patiently (or not) waiting for me in the carpool loop and Ryan was most likely running late for tennis practice. We were both standing in a small group of people talking when I noticed that his necklace chain was turned backwards. I turned it for him and said “Make a wish.”, he stood there speechless for a second before he said “Thank you.” and we exchanged a few short sentences. When I got in the car with my mom, my heart was pounding. Every time that I saw him from that day on, my stomach was full of butterflies and my heart would pound. We've been married for 6 years now and he still gives me that feeling.
Now, we have four beautiful boys that also make my heart pound. It always takes me by surprise when something so small can make my heart smile so wide that it feels as though it might explode. It was nothing extraordinary, just a bike ride at the park. Ryan, Hudson, Evan and I strolled along the paved path while out in the distance, the twins pedaled as fast as their small legs would go, weaving in and out of the parents watching soccer practice and children playing on the path. For the majority of the bike ride, Elijah and Owen swapped places for the lead. But, for about 5 minutes, they were side by side. I'm not quite sure what they were talking about but they pedaled along together. Brothers and best friends laughing, talking, and having the time of their life. The faint giggling in the distance turned me into a puddle of mush, my heart swelled and once again began to pound. And in that moment, I thanked God for the incredible gift they are in my life!
