Walking in a Winter Wonderland!

Our family lives in the piedmont region of North Carolina and snow of any kind is a BIG deal. My twins are 3 years old and this is their first real snow. It has snowed a little (an inch or less) the last couple years but not really enough to bother bundling them up to play in it. Finally- we got some decent snow. About 5 inches of decent snow to be exact!

We made snow angels, had snow ball fights, went sledding, took a long wintry walk, and even played on the local park's playground. It was a blast. We also made snow cream, and from what I understand this is a southern treat... anyone out west or up north have a snow cream recipe? This is how I made our snow cream.

  • 1 large mixing bowl of clean snow (no yellow snow, hee hee)
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Mix all the ingredients into the snow until creamy texture. Depending on how much snow is in your bowl, you may want to add more milk to make it creamier or add more snow if it's runny. Serve immediately and enjoy!

The next day we made a batch of strawberry snow cream. Follow the recipe above and add in 1 cup of frozen strawberries- pureed. DELICIOUS!

What does your family do in the snow? Any special activities or food traditions?
